Waiting (Yes, Waiting) for the iPhone

A friend sent me a link to this rant bitching about the iPhone. My response (which I was going to send via StumbleUpon, but decided it was getting a wee bit wordy):

Yeah, there's a reason that I'm not getting one for a while. First, I promised myself I'd wait until I paid off two credit cards. Second, the price *will* come down a good deal. And third, it's not just a new product, it's a new user interface paradigm - I understood it would take some time for refinement. But I still want one - I'm just holding out until it's everything I've come to expect from Apple.

I'm not so sure about the price coming down.

Ah well. If it doesn't? I'll still buy one. Price isn't a barrier for me (though I still believe it -will- come down), it's merely nice to "know" that I'll probably save some change while I'm waiting on my other two conditions.

Peace, yo.

Hi Erica!

Thanks so much for your phone call. I was very touched that you would think of me and call to see if I was ok. I'm sorry for the long delay, but I've been very engaged this last week. We are ok here. The fire was about 30 miles away. We definitely got the down-wind smoke though.

How is everything going for you?

Paul

If the iPhone price doesn't come down quickly enough, some other savvy company will be hot on their heels and create a device that is enough like the iPhone at a better price - and probably with less "apple cult" baggage - to make Apple wish that it had acted sooner. It is a beautiful device, though, isn't it?

Oh, and Erica? I tagged you with a meme over at my place. Wanna play?
